Learning to see
2010 - 2012
Learning to See was breaking loose from the single image; it pushed the way of combining images in the handwriting series from years earlier, to its next level. I put photographs together in non-literal combinations that felt even more compelling than the drama of trees individually. I began photographing trees when I was visiting my mother as she was living through many years with Alzheimer’s. She still lived in the house I grew up in and the trees surrounding her felt like emotional stand-ins for my personal intensity.
I made large Archival Inkjet Prints from a DSLR camera. The prints were approximately 3 x 4’, but sometimes smaller or larger.
